iOS 15 - What We Expect

The release of iOS 15 is still a way off, but that didn't stop the churning of the rumor mill. We have collected what we know so far for now, and what we would like to see. Apple will talk more about iOS 15 at WWDC 2021 later this year, but in the meantime, we're bound to see leaks.

With iOS 14 last year, Apple really changed things with features that users have been asking for, such as widgets on the home screen. It also added the App Library to automatically organize your apps and to change your default browser and email client. And IOS 15 is aimed to give a lot more improvements.

What phones is it going to support?

Rumors say that support for the 2016 iPhone SE, iPhone 6s, and iPhone 6s Plus will decrease with the iOS 15 upgrade. This will mean that the upgrade would be usable on the following devices:

  •  iPhone 12 Pro Max
  • iPhone 12 Pro
  • iPhone 12 mini
  • iPhone 12
  • iPhone 11
  • iPhone 11 Pro
  • iPhone 11 Pro Max
  • iPhone XS
  • iPhone XS Max
  • iPhone XR
  • iPhone X
  • iPhone 8
  • iPhone 8 Plus
  • iPhone 7
  • iPhone 7 Plus
  • iPhone SE (2020)
  • iPod touch (7th generation)
At the Worldwide Developers Conference 2021, which we presume to take place in June, iOS 15 will be previewed. Exact dates will be shared later in the year for the event. For the 2021 case in May, Apple exchanged dates, so we might see a similar timeframe this year.

Quite definitely, the 2021 WWDC event will be a digital-only free event open to all developers, just as the 2020 event. WWDC was a physical meeting in previous years, but by June 2021, we do not expect major in-person gatherings to be able to take place.

The software will be given to developers for testing purposes after being previewed at WWDC, and then to the public beta testing community later in the summer. IOS 15 will see a public rollout with new iPhones after beta testing is over in the fall.

What we'd like to see

  • Better and smarter Siri
  • In Translate, more languages
  • For the App Store, a wish list
Stay tuned for more updates
