Release Date of Airpods 3

What We Know So Far About AirPods 3

Apple is working on a third-generation variant of the AirPods, which is expected to be released in 2021. For the first time since the AirPods were released in 2016, we could see some interface updates. This guide contains all of the information we have about the forthcoming AirPods 3.

Since their introduction more than four years ago, Apple's AirPods have been a huge hit. Since the first edition, we've seen the AirPods 2 or AirPods with wireless charging, as they were officially named, in early 2019, preceded by the absolutely spectacular AirPods Pro.

Updates to the Design

According to recent rumors, the highly awaited headphones will be inspired by the AirPods Pro, with adjustable silicone ear tips, contact buttons, and smaller stems. The smaller stems, as we discovered in our analysis of the AirPods Pro, can make the AirPods 3 less noticeable when worn, not to mention lighter and more convenient.

Some leaks say that the AirPods will have silicone tips, whilst others claim that the earpiece configuration will be similar to the AirPods, but without a tip.

Instead, the AirPods seem to be a combination between the AirPods and the AirPods Pro, with an AirPods Pro-like design but a body that blends into the ear without an ear tip.

These leaks also have a good view of the charging shell, which appears to have a curvaceous shape reminiscent of the original AirPods case. If you look closely, you'll see a new LED shifting indicator on the front.

Others also suggested that the AirPods 3 would be available in new colors, with Space Grey and black being the most possible. Or, as with the AirPods Max, maybe Apple will go all out and release them in a dazzling five colors? Or maybe not.

AirPods 3: Specifications

Apple is said to be working on a new wireless chip that could be used in the third-generation AirPods, as well as several battery life upgrades. A new wireless chip may have increased range, but the AirPods 3 are expected to perform similarly to the current model, with smooth system shifting and easy pairing with Apple devices, among other advantages.

This would also make sense to improve water resistance. Though not entirely waterproof, the AirPods Pro has a higher level of water resistance (IPX4) than its non-Pro counterparts. Active people appreciate water resistance because it allows them to race through the rain and sweat profusely without thinking about damaging their earbuds.

Other Features

According to 52audio, a forum that spreads rumors about headphones and earbuds, the AirPods 3 will have the same pressure-relieving mechanism as the AirPods Pro. The device is intended to equalise pressure inside the ear to alleviate pain caused by wearing the AirPods for an extended period of time.

The AirPods 3 can also have the same touch controls as the AirPods Pro, rather than the single and double-tap movements used on current AirPods versions.

Release Date

Later, in March of this year, Kuo retracted his assertion, claiming that the AirPods 3 have been postponed and will not go into development until "3321" – the third quarter of 2021. To put it another way, the AirPods 3 are expected to launch in time for Christmas.

Kuo has an especially strong track record when it comes to Apple forecasts, having correctly forecast the 2019 release of the Apple AirPods Pro, but he's not the only one in town. Other experts predict that Apple will unveil the AirPods 3 at the company's WWDC developer conference on June 7th.
